Inspiring the next generation of social change consultants
Social Engine’s directors Avis Johns and Toby Blume are teaching a regular module for King’s College’s Masters in Consulting for the Public Sector.
Client
Kings College London
The brief
Teach a regular module in the business school to train future practitioners on how to do consultancy for the public sector.
Key insight
Kings wanted us to share our methods, while bringing a values-led and non-formulaic approach to public sector consultancy.
Dr Alec Fraser, Senior Lecturer in Public Policy & Management, was particularly interested in us teaching the course since we could demonstrate a process that was aligned with the values-ofpotential clients, rather than using the formulaic ‘business school’ approach you might expect from traditional private sector consultants.
Over the module’s four weeks, the students engage with ‘real life’ projects from genuine client situations, using tools, processes and methods that Social Engine has developed to deliver high quality, high impact consultancy for public and not-for-profit clients.
We guide the students through the full project life cycle, from defining the problem, designing research plans and engaging with stakeholder groups, to formulating conclusions and developing practical recommendations that can be translated into deliverable solutions with real impact.
